Birding the Blue Ridge Pkwy

Join Barbara Ballentine, associate professor of biology at WCU and author of Bird Talk: An Exploration of Avian Commmunication, to bird the Blue Ridge Parkway in search of fall migrants. We'll meet at the Standing Rock Overlook parking area. We can leave some cars in the parking lot if people want to carpool. From there, we will head to Richland Balsam (about 10 miles from Standing Rock), stopping at overlooks along the way to look for migrants. Barbara will then take anyone who wishes to continue on to Wolf Mountain Overlook (about 6 miles from Richland Balsam) to see the vertical bog that has sundews and some other cool plants. It is an easy trip - mostly driving to overlooks. Bring binoculars, water, and snacks/lunch. Loaner binoculars are available if needed.
