Broad-winged Hawk Migration

Every fall hundreds of Broad-winged Hawks migrate through the Blue Ridge escarpment on their way to their wintering grounds in Central and South America. They are spotted from Whiteside Mountain between Sept. 20 and 24 and can be seen from the overlook kettling up in large numbers. Meet us at the overlook on Whiteside and maybe we’ll get lucky! There is no way to know exactly when they will show up but we’ll enjoy birding together regardless - Peregrine Falcons are regularly seen here and we’ll likely spot some warblers as well. Bring binoculars, water, snacks or lunch. Meet us at the trailhead at 10:00 AM to walk up to the overlook or join us at the overlook anytime between 10 and 2.
